(RHE) Rock Solid Citizen Spotlight: Mr. Jeffrey Land
This month, Rockville Housing Enterprise proudly recognizes Mr. Jeffrey Land as our Rock-Solid Citizen. Mr. Land’s remarkable journey of redemption, personal growth, faith, and perseverance serves as an inspiration to residents throughout our community.
Mr. Land came to Rockville Housing Enterprise’s David Scull Community in 2023 after experiencing a difficult period marked by instability, violence, and addiction. Reflecting on his battle with alcohol addiction, Jeffrey shared a powerful realization that became a turning point in his recovery:
“The solution was not external to me. It was not in money, an apartment, drugs, friends, or women. My mind needed to be fixed.”
Jeffrey credits his faith and spirituality as the greatest catalyst for change in his life. He also expressed deep gratitude toward Rockville Housing Enterprise for providing an environment that offered what he describes as “space, peace, and opportunity.”
Known for his curiosity and desire for self-improvement, Jeffrey believes that learning is essential to personal growth. As he puts it:
“Inquisitiveness is a gift. I ask questions, and I want to know why.”
It was this same curiosity, along with his determination to be a positive role model for his children and not, in his own words, a “hypocrite,” that motivated him to pursue higher education. With support from the Rockville Housing Enterprise ROSS Program, Mr. Land enrolled in college despite having no prior computer training.
Discussing his decision to return to school, Jeffrey explained:
“I went back to college to invest in my mind rather than material things.”
In addition to his academic pursuits, Mr. Land has a passion for photography. He continues to develop his skills behind the camera while learning the art of photo printing and processing.
When asked about what motivates him and how he views community, Jeffrey offered a thoughtful reflection:
“I am connected to God and to my fellow man. I do not exist in isolation.”
Mr. Land’s story is a testament to the power of resilience, self-reflection, faith, and opportunity. His commitment to personal growth and community engagement exemplifies what it means to be a Rock-Solid Citizen. We are honored to celebrate his achievements and look forward to seeing all that he continues to accomplish.
RHE Youth Build Success Story: Mosbei Bii
When Mosbei Bii first came to YouthBuild, he had recently left high school and struggled with staying consistent in the program. He often skipped sessions and was unsure of what direction he wanted his life to take.
That turning point came after a long, heartfelt conversation with Kurt Turnier and Samuel Joe. Together, they helped Mosbei reflect on his future and what he truly wanted to achieve. From that moment, Mosbei shifted his focus and committed himself to earning his GED.
Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, Mosbei became the very first student in his YouthBuild cohort to earn a GED. From then on, he grew into one of the most outstanding participants in the program, setting a positive example for others.
After completing all of YouthBuild’s requirements, Mosbei was placed in an internship with Rockville Housing Enterprises (RHE). There, he impressed everyone he worked with. Staff and colleagues consistently praised his strong work ethic, professionalism, and positive attitude.
On September 3, 2025, Mosbei achieved yet another milestone—he became the first YouthBuild-RHE participant to begin his college journey at Montgomery College.
We are beyond proud of Mosbei. His story is one of resilience, growth, and determination. We know this is just the beginning, and we are confident that Mosbei will continue to achieve greatness in life.
When Oi Young Jr first joined the YouthBuild Rockville Housing Enterprises program, he was a 16-year-old who felt lost. He didn’t know his own address or phone number, but one thing stood out—his positive energy. Oi was always the first one to arrive, ready to work, and he consistently got things done well and on time.
Over time, Oi began to grow and change. He became more confident in himself and in life. He embraced every challenge and completed everything YouthBuild asked of him. His commitment and growth led to a four-month internship placement at WorkSource Montgomery, the American Job Center servicing Montgomery County, MD.
At WorkSource Montgomery, Oi quickly became a favorite among the staff. His supervisor once called to share how impressed she was with him. On a day when a staff member called out, Oi stepped up without hesitation. He took control of the office, assisting everyone who came in looking for a job. His professionalism and leadership stood out, and his supervisor proudly shared how well he handled the situation.
Because of his outstanding performance, Oi’s supervisor offered him the opportunity to apply to a full-time position at WorkSource Montgomery. Today, Oi is just one test away from earning his GED, and we couldn’t be more proud of him. He continues to show that with positivity, hard work, and determination, a bright future is always possible.
